Historic Music Code of Practice in France

Sep 30, 2015

The IAO welcomes the signing today of a new code of practice for the French music industry which will set new standards of behaviour between platforms, labels and artists.

For the first time, artists are to be given rights to transparency, a fair share of the value generated by their work online and minimum guaranteed payments.
However we are well aware that the hard work starts now – we must ensure that the difficult discussions over equity stakes taken by Major labels in streaming platforms are not glossed over and that broad principles manifest in concrete action.
In the meantime, we thank the French Culture Minister, Fleur Pellerin, the Mediator, Marc Schwartz, our c
olleagues at la GAM and all the other signatories to the code for creating this opporuntity to find a balanced commercial solution between stakeholders in digtial music.
