At the annual Music Industry Conference in Cannes last week Tore Engström Østby represented IAO in a panel discussing The Creator & The Industry; Sharing The Created Value.
After an introduction by MEP Ibán García Del Blanco, who commissioned report «Cultural diversity and the conditions for authors in the European music streaming market» panelists from A2IM, Deezer and Spotify alongside IAO discussed the reality of the streaming economy.
The panel touched upon contractual conditions, equitable renumeration and distribution models. Engström Østby argued that a user centric model would not only result in fair payment to creators, but also stimulate cultural diversity. It will also provide the best tool to counteract manipulation of streaming and AI products flooding the market.
After the panel Tore Engström Østby and Nacho Garcia Vega for IAO and Nick Yule for the AEPO-ARTIS took the opportunity to discuss with MEP Ibán García Del Blanco the necessity of the resolution leading to concrete results.
